KUALA LUMPUR: A blogger who started an Internet fundraising campaign for the Metro Tabernacle Church which was attacked by arsonists managed to raise RM8,467 in just four days.
Dr Mohamed Rafick Khan Abdul Rahman, 45, started the donation drive on his blog (http://rights2write.wordpress.com) immediately after learning about the attack on the church early on Friday morning.
He said donations came pouring in nationwide, and from as far away as Britain and Europe.
Most of the donors were his blog readers and their friends.

“People from all walks of life responded to this call to help the church, and 33% of them were Muslim Malays.
“I even had a Malay goat farmer from Tanjung Karang who asked me to buy his goat and put all the money in the fund,” Dr Mohamed said when met after presenting the cheque to church board member Dr Ebinezar John at the church here yesterday.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Zakaria Pagan was present at the event.
Dr Mohamed said he wanted to send a strong message to Malaysians and the world that there were many level-headed Muslims in this country who could differentiate between right and wrong.
“There are many Muslims who believe in the value of religion. There are many Muslims who care,” he added. One contributor was 59-year-old Melvin San from Petaling Jaya, who felt compelled to help the church in the spirit of 1Malaysia.
“We have to put aside our differences and instead look at how we’re all the same. The attacks should be a wake-up call for Malaysians to be united,” said San.
